Ryan was working as a Police Officer in Halls Creek, a remote community in WA's far north when he contracted Murray Valley Encephalitis; a rare mosquito borne virus.  This virus infected Ryan's brain and carried with it a potentially fatal outcome.  But Ryan managed to pull through albeit with a devastating brain injury.

This virus has left Ryan completely dependent, needing assistance with all basic day to day tasks.

Ryan is still the same larger than life person he was before the illness but being trapped inside a body that's letting him down is absolutely life shattering for Ryan and his loved ones.

The good news is that Ryan has so much potential for further recovery and with his positive attitude and fighting spirit there is no limit to what Ryan can acheive.
